4K EXR 10bit Stuttering in Presentation Mode

I seem to be having an issue playing some 4K shots that are outputted to an Ultra Studio 4K. I get smooth playback when playing with Presentation Mode off, however when I turn it on I get stuttering on the Presentation Display.

  Hi Ryan,

  1) What version of RV-SDI are you using and on which platform?

  2) Can you please confirm RV-SDI can see the attached Blackmagic SDI hardware?

  3) Please send a screen capture from the Video tab of RV's preferences with the SDI settings you have configured.

  Hi Jon,

   

  Thanks for getting back to me. I figured out the issue. I wasn’t allotting enough ram for caching. It was set at 15GB, I raised it to 30GB and it fixed the issue. However, I do believe this will become a problem for long shots. It seems to do this stuttering even when it looks as if the bar has it cached, it only stops stuttering when the whole clip is cached. Also the clip is only 7.8GB (17 sec) and when cached the program is using 24GB, not sure if there is a way to optimize this. 

   

  I am running on ver. 7.1.1 via a Mac.

  Hi Ryan,

  I am glad you made some progress here. Can you please send me the screen capture from the Caching tab? Are you using Region or Look-Ahead caching?

  I have tried them both, Look-Ahead is a problem because it doesn't cache the whole clip and while it's accessing the clip it stutters. I will take a screenshot and post in shortly.

  Hi Ryan,

  I see. That indicates there is a resource shortage. It could be for a couple of reasons. Fundamentally you are not reading the upcoming frames into RV fast enough to achieve realtime playback. What kind of computer and CPU are you using?

  Thank you so much for the link... it looks as if my fix of increasing the cache size was causing the problem. I lowered the cache to 4GB and it fixed the stuttering. However, I am still getting that occation hicup about every one second on the presentation display only.

  What's weird, is if I set the Cache to 40GB I can load the entire clip and it then the hicup is much better. instead of every second, it will hicup maybe once or twice over a 19sec clip. 

  The sytem I'm running is a Mac Pro 6 core. With 2 Lacie 8Bigs striped.
