WHITE background with grey text

I can't in good conscience ask a compositor or TD to read their Inbox in Shotgun when it is styled with a white background with light-light-gray 8 point text.

These disciplines are in dark rooms with every tool tuned to black, grey and muted colors.

This is not a feature request. It's a show-stopper for these artists.

Does this end up being a CSS hack/patch for others?

    Hi Doug!

You're not alone in feeling this way. In fact, I was at a studio last week and watched artists quickly flip between Shotgun and their app (Maya, Nuke, Photoshop) because it was too bright to leave open. In retrospect, because the Inbox is really geared towards artist, it would have been wise to design it in a dark theme from scratch. Instead, we decided to keep it consistent with the UIs we had at the time, all of which were light gray. The trick is that we see producers use these, too, and they tend to sit in brighter room or near windows, so dark would be hard to read for them. Really, we need both.

Fast forward a couple years, and we'll on our way to redeveloping our UI framework to support "theming" (i.e. a light and dark theme). We haven't launched these changes yet, but you'll soon start to see UIs roll out that have theming built in. I'm happy to dive into more details offline (email me benhadden@shotgunsoftware.com). I'll be doing a blog post about this soon, so stay tuned.
