How to add versions to an existing SG Review session

Hi guys,

we are currently checking out RV7 and really like the SG integratoin so far.

But we don't have a clue how to add another Shots version to that existing session in RV, as Drag'n'Drop from the Browser seems to be no longer supported. At least when SG Integration and Screening Room is disabled in RV - as stated here.

Are we missing something or is it just not supported yet?

Best,

Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

SG Review does not currently support amending arbitrary versions to an existing session.  Using SG Review, you can view a Cut, a Playlist, or a selection of Versions; but once loaded, a session can only be modified with more versions by doing the swap/replace type functions in the Side panel, selecting a different cut/iteration of a cut if you have loaded a cut, or by enabling cuts from any individual version which will allow you access to other versions in that cut.

Effectively, to load unrelated versions into SG Review, you will need to perform another 'Play in RV' action which will override the current session.

    Thanks,

    Hi Michael,

thank you for the fast reply.

Can you also confirm that the Drag'n'Drop that was possible in RV6 (wiht SG Integration and Screening Room enbabled) does no longer work in RV7 (with SG Review enabled). It would be ok for us to just drag another version into an existing session even without being managed by SG Review. Just like dragging from the file system, which is still possible but not SG Review managed.

    Thanks,

    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

You should be able to drag and drop a version, but if you add it to a sequence managed by SG Review, it won't show up.  This is because SG Review has AutoEDL for sequences disabled and SG Review manages the sequence edl explicitly.

You can still use non-managed timelines in a session managed by SG Review, but there will be some disconnects with the SG Review UI and I don't recommend it unless you can keep a good understanding of what is managed and what isn't.

    Thanks,

    Hi Michael,

can you reproduce this in RV7 and let me know if it is really working? Not every session needs to be SG Review managed and thats why we would love to be able to still drag'n'drop from Shotugn. As I said, this is only working for us when we do have SG Integration and Screening Room enabied. But these two are diesabled in our RV7 setup. Enabling SG Review in Shotgun does not seem to break it, as it is still working for us in RV6.

If it is working for you - which packages do you have enabled and which ones do you think are mandatory?

    Best,

    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

Sorry, did you mean dragging URLs and not Media into RV?  That behavior is, indeed, provided by the SG Integration package.  You can enable 'SG Integration' in addition to SG Review in RV 7 (I've just done that) and it will allow for dragging version URLs into RV; but it still lives with the caveat that it can't exist properly in an SG Review managed view.

If you switch to the Default Sequence you can see these added, but since SG Review doesn't utilize the Default Sequence you won't actually see the new media.  The media will be available in the session manager, but if you are viewing an SG Review managed view it won't show up even if you add it since the AutoEDL is disabled.  The other downside to enabling Shotgun Integration in addition to SG Review is that it creates the 'Shotgun' menu in addition to 'SG Review', which will not operate in-between the two.  I would recommend making a feature request to support droppable URLs in SG Review in our Feature Request area here: https://support.shotgunsoftware.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/200682468-RV-Feature-Requests

If you are looking for a fair number of features such as this from Screening Room that are not currently reproduced in SG Review, and if have no current need for cuts within RV, you may find better success with using Screening Room + Shotgun Integration with RV7.  Screening Room + Shotgun Integration still ship with RV7, but are not enabled by default.  If your studio wishes to remain on Screening Room, you can disable the 'Shotgun Review'  in the site preferences and enabling/disabling the RV packages in the 'Packages' tab of the RV preferences.

    Thanks,

    Hi Michael,

for some reason I get an UI overlay error "Unknown Object" and then "Protocol https is not implemented" when I am trying to drag from SG in a browser to RV7 with SG Review and SG Integration enabled.

But it might be no longer that important is it seems we are switching to Screening Room in RV7.

    Thank you.

    Tobias
