Better Notification System

We'd like to be able to have more types of events generate email notifications. Task assignment, new cut information, change in task end dates, and change in shot status for shots I have a task assigned to me in; for example.

It would be wonderful if the contents of the email were a template that we'd have control over.

This came up again today, although in addition having some groups auto maintained for you would be really handy... like 'All people assigned to a task in this asset' (or shot) style.

I've seen this is on the Roadmap: 'Notification framework (email updates about changes to things related to you)'

But, do you plan to give control over who is notified, or just "things related to you"?, I understand If you are the artist assigned to a task and the status has been changed from 'Waiting to Start' to 'Ready to Start' or the 'Dates' change you receive a notification email. I second Rob on his proposal but having also the ability to go beyond 'assigned to a task in this asset' to 'All people linked to this project in this group'. Sometimes is very handy to notify artists doing another shot/asset or the producer.

Our thoughts here are to create a twitter / facebook like stream of events that can be subscribed to in various ways.  Each person can control what they subscribe to.  Some subs will be on specific things:  following a Shot you like, or a specific Asset.  Other subs will be query based, such as "all Tasks I'm assigned to".  In this way, a person can tune what is important to them and then choose how to receive the notification (email, rss, etc.).  Not sure about a lot of things yet, like if you should be able to make multiple streams with different delivery options.  We'll likely start as simple as we can and then add features.

Does that approach sound right?  Clearly this won't be the only way to look at your data, but it will be a way to understand what's changing around you.

Yeap, that sounds great to me.

If people can build their querry based subscriptions just like the filter conditions for any page would be terrific.

I might jump in and also say that this feature sounds awesome. Subscription based notifications would prevent potential communication issues across departments.

Any news about the upgrade of the notification system?

Personnally it would be great if we can send and customize our own notification.  (ex: like facebook OpenGraph)

It would be great to control whether notifications are subscription based on a per project and studiowide level. Sometimes, we need to "force" team members to look at their notifications (via email is usually the best way) and sometimes we can trust that a team is checking their notification streams.
