Marking linked fields as read-only on a particular layout

I have a tab on each shot which is of type "Fields", and which pulls in the linked fields from a particular "camera" entity linked to that shot (e.g. "Camera" -> "Lens Serial Number"). My worry is that people will get confused and think that these camera details are shot specific, and start changing details on this shot tab, not realising that the changes will then trickle through to all other shots using the same camera. What would be cool would be if when configuring the fields that will appear on your tab, you could mark them as "read only" for this particular tab (i.e. nothing to do with permissions - it's not that people can't alter these details elsewhere, just specifically on this layout)
