I just noticed today that you can't go deeper than the field of a linked entity. We're working around this by de-normalizing fields where required, but it would be nice if we didn't have to.
For example, on the Shot entity, you can link Last Submitted Version > Task, but not Last Submitted Version > Task > Status.
We've run into similar issues. We ended up making some external tools to create reports where data needs to be pulled from a link's link's fields.
For example, we Invoice clients when certain tasks are completed, but we need to concatenate data from Tasks, Orders (custom entity), Mocap Trial & Contract (custom entity). Viewing data from deeper links would be really helpful.
Agreed it's already working for filters would be great if it would work for displaying columns as well!
Just ran into the same issue in several places. It is almost always an issue with Tasks trying to get information from data of the Shot they are linked to. Ex. Task -> Link (Shot) -> Sequence -> Priority
Even just one more level of linking would help.

Not yet, but it's still towards the top of the list. You can filter by double hops, but not sort/group/view in the UI. It's a larger feature due to the underlying backend support required, but we're still aiming to implement it. I'll update this ticket when we have a more precise ETA.

Good news on this one! As of Monday, Dec 9th (when we released Shotgun 5.4), this is now possible. So long as you're bringing fields on a page that are linked through *single entity* fields, you can now bring on fields up to "two hops" away. Check out the release notes for more info on this one:
