Advanced Grouping Options: Default Open/Closed Setting for Each Group

I often use several levels of grouping to organize data. Although there are options to open or close all the groups at once, I often want to open only the top n groups but leave the bottom one closed. This is especially helpful when I am using Page and Column summaries to calculate data. I can do this by hand, but new entries always cause the the groups to open again. It would be helpful if the Advanced Grouping dialog box contained an option where you could specify whether the group should be open or closed by default much in the same way you can choose ascending or descending sort orders.

    Hey Kym,

We have a feature request to allow defaults states of collapsed/expanded (sg11265) so I'll be sure to add your use case to the ticket.  Would this be something you'd only need to set once as a default state of the page, or is it something you find you quickly want to toggle on/off when you visit the page?  Let me know!

I think adding a "reset all groups" option to the "close all groups" and "open all groups" would be the most helpful solution. That way I can set each group to be open or closed by default through the advanced grouping window (much in the same way I currently set the default sort order), and can quickly restore the page to this state anytime I like.

    Hi Kim,

We save the state of the groups in the page settings, so if we gave you more control over the open/closed state of each advanced group, then you could always revert the page to its saved settings to go back to the default state.  Think that would accomplish what you're after?

    Cheers,
    Ben
