Basic playback options

Hi

My name is Bonsak and i work at Racecar in Oslo, Norway. Were a small motion graphics company counting 7 people. We do most our work in After Effects and Cinema 4d. We're building a small renderfarm with Deadline as manager and have just started using Shotgun to help us keep track of all our small and medium sized projects going on at the same time. As were getting set up with Deadline and Shotgun (Group) together we're amazed by the possibilities this combo is offering. We realize already that its going to change the way we work. But after a good number of workflow tests we still have a couple of items on our wishlist. Our biggest hurdle at the moment is playback in Shotgun. We've tried RV and it is an amazing piece of software and would be perfect if it supported more quicktime formats like Apple Uncompressed 4:4:4:4, Prores, etc.

On friday i managed to hack together an Automator service (osx) that takes text as input and sends it to Djv. We double click the Path to frames field, select all text and fire off the service from the Osx right click menu :) It works but its not very elegant. So i wish there was an option in Shotgun - like you have in Deadline - where you can set a couple of default viewers. Nothing fancy like RV, just play or view the file(s) in question with your favorite viewer :)

Cheers

Hey Bonsak, not sure if this would address your needs, but have you explored our Local File Linking feature which could allow you to upload a local file link to a Quicktime that plays back in a default player (e.g. djv) established by your OS? That would be the simplest solution. As an alternate option, you could explore launching external applications using a custom protocol. This would be used in conjunction with our custom action menu items feature.

Hope these options steer you in the right direction! Let us know how it goes!

    Cheers,

    Stephen

Hi Stephen, after the first post I've realized how we can use the "Uploaded Movie" field much more strategicaly. Didnt realize this field could take any filetype :)
