Display weekday regardless of date in My Tasks left pane

It has been suggested that Shotgun should always display the Due Date's weekday in the My Tasks left pane, regardless of the current date. At the moment the logic works as follows:

- If the due date is Yesterday, Today, or Tomorrow, we show those words.
- If the due date is in the current week (Mon - Sun), we show the day of the week (e.g. Thursday, Sunday, etc)
- If the due date is in the current year before or after the current week, we show the Month Day (e.g. Nov 18)
- If the due date is not in the current year, we show the Monday Day, Year (e.g. Jan 14, 2014)

 

Please add your support to this ticket if you'd like to see the weekday always displayed, regardless of the Due Date relative to "Today's" date.

  When you are looking at your tasks on the My Task page on a Friday and you are trying to work out what you have to delivery next week and all you can see are numbers like Nov 23, the only way that you can know what day of the week your tasks are due is to open up a second window with a calendar OR start counting days forward from today.

  I think at least with in the Month, or a least in the next 7 days (rather than current week), we should be having the Day of the week, so you can plan the week ahead as easily as possible.

  I really think this is a no brainer. Please support this feature request!!!

  Hi Alex,

  Good catch. You're absolutely right that the current implementation is confusing. I like your suggestion of showing the day name (Mon, Tues, etc) if the date is in the *next* 7 days rather than the current week. Think we can go with that? Then whenever someone sees a day name, they're read it in their heads as "This coming Monday", "This coming Tuesday", etc

  While we're in there, are there any other formatting fixes we should make? At one point, we were thinking of trying to color dates in the past red...but not sure that's going too far. Thoughts?

  Hi Ben,

  We've had an interesting user story where artists really liked to see some recently completed tasks. It helps them find similar shots they have just completed, so they have somewhere to start. We were "accidentally" (for different reasons) leaving these on a different schedule page, and a lot of artists were relying on it. We really had no idea, until we upgraded to 5 (and people were looking for this on their "My Tasks". Currently we filter off all completed tasks, but we are thinking of allowing a week or so of "past" completed tasks, so people have a little context of the surrounding tasks (both forward and back). So a subtle indication of something that is in the past would be useful (ie. it doesn't have to be 'this is very bad' alarm bell red).

  But other than that, IMO any more information on the left hand side would start to clutter. The important stuff is there, what is it, when is it due & what is the status.

  Actually, if you are in there, being able to do "Advanced Sorting" within My Task would be really Awesome. We want to sort by Milestone, then Project and then Link.
