It would be useful to be able to adjust the frames of a Version that are played by the web player. Easiest approach from an implementation standpoint would probably be to allow the web player to trim the Version on playback based on its First Frame / Last Frame fields in Shotgun. So if the Version's uploaded movie was 100 frames long, but you edited the first frame field to be 20 and the last frame field to be 30, it would just play those 10 frames whenever the Version was played in Screening Room Web or the Overlay Player.
