Configure What Version Plays When Clicking an Entity Thumbnail

Currently when a play icon appears on an entity thumbnail, there are some basic (and sometimes confusing) behaviors. Namely:

- Clicking play on a Shot or Asset thumbnail will play the latest Version linked to that Shot.

- Clicking the play icon on a Sequence will play the latest Version linked to a Shot within that Sequence.

We've heard from clients they would like to have a degree of control over this behavior. For example only playing a certain type of latest Version (perhaps from a designated department), or excluding certain possible results (reference material, or supporting render passes).

If this is something you'd like to see implemented, click the "Me Too!" button and let us know how you'd like to configure this sort of setting.

    For us it would be best if each entity would play the latest version, which is linked to this entity. 

    We also have versions linked to the sequence entity, hence for us having shots in there is not what would want.

    We would like a way to protect the thumbnail and the playable video associated with the thumbnail for the shot. Our clients and coordinators use the shot thumbnail to identify shots. Right now, the versions are overwriting the playable videos, and this is confusing our clients and coordinators because the versions that update the video could be animated matte channels, or anything else rendered in 3D.

    What would be the best way to protect the thumbnail and video so that nothing updates, over overwrites, it?

    I noticed this is marked done, does anyone happen to know how to set what plays?

    Humm, I'm familiar with those, but the logic for our thumbnails, unfortunately, can't be expressed via the filtering exposed by query thumbnails, so we are still on explicit thumbnails which carry the legacy behavior.

    Should I fork of a new feature request for the explicit entity selection?
