When an entity record is presented to you in places like the Global Search or when typing into an entity link field, what you see is called the "Display Name Cache" for that entity. An example would be if you started typing in a Shot name into the Sequence.shots field like so:
You see the Shot name, its status, and the Project to which it belongs. We've heard different use cases from clients where they would like to change the information displayed there, as there is often other helpful contextual information stored on the record. Perhaps you'd rather see "Shot name, status - Description" so it's easier to choose the correct Shot.
