Contextual Global Search

The global search can be useful for quickly finding something you're tracking, no matter where you are. We've heard from some clients they'd like to more easily limit the scope of the search to an individual Project, without the need to scroll through the (sometimes long) list of entities/Projects to find the Project in question.

This request is to make the global search contextual such that:

  • If on a non-Project page (e.g. global page like Inbox or My Tasks), global search defaults to "All Projects"
  • If on a Project page (e.g. Overview, or the Schedule page), global search defaults to "Current Project"

This would allow for users to more easily search for things within their current Project, with the ability to still go in and check "All Projects" if need be.

Would this be useful to you? Would you want to see similar features? If so click the Me Too button and leave your thoughts in the comments.

Our project tracking crew just asked me today how they can list all the tasks (assigned or unassigned) belonging to every project within a single view to help them determine if an artist is available to work on a task. We have many small projects happening at once so this type of global view would be great for us. WE'd also want to make a view which lists artists who are not tasked with anything across all projects and also take in to consideration vacation or sickness data from the crew planning application.
