Nested Groups

We use shotgun groups for e-mail lists and we have a lot of redundant groups around. Lots of publish notification groups that contain everyone in the 'Editorial' group for instance. We were talking about adding a 'Subgroups' field to groups, but that has the downside that none of the built-in shotgun notification functionality would respect it. An officially supported method for adding groups to other groups would be great.
