Hello all
I am trying to create a field called "Scheduled Air Date" to the Custom Entity "Show"
when I use "date" as a Filed Type it wants a specific date.
I want to have-
"Sundays at 8PM ET" in 1, 2 or 3 fields
do I have to use a generic text Field?

Yes, a text field seems like the way to go for now, as our date fields are designed for a specific date. We do have plans to add more general calendaring features to Shotgun, like for setting up meetings, and we'll definitely need this feature for that (every Wed at 10am, 2nd Friday of the month, etc).

The issue of a 'meeting' object came up just the other day. Sounds like a great idea, is this a short, medium or long term goal?

I think it's a medium term goal. It's a bit out of scope for the core of what Shotgun does (tracking the work going on and helping people communicate about it) and many of our clients already have that part covered with other tools like Meeting Maker or Exchange, but there's definitely value to having meetings integrated with the rest of the scheduling of a project, particularly for things like scheduling reviews and then having notes come out of those reviews. We listen to our clients, and what is import to them, so that's how we decide what features we should be tackling next! We'd like to add ical support, so that you can see those Shotgun meetings in some other system, and also subscribe to ical data from another system be able to see it in Shotgun.

Medium term is good. As you say there are a number scheduling and calender options out there. Hourly scheduling feels like overkill for shotgun. I think the idea of review session as a 'meeting' object is most appealing for us. I will have a look ical sounds interesting.

It wold allow a legacy system to be accessed without reinventing the wheel.
BUT allowing a meeting entity to be tied to assets would be useful, too. And some results oriented thang... like decisions, notes, results, pastries served,...
Hourly would actually be helpful for us. We often have specific times on a day when something has to be delivered by. Whether that be EOD, Noon or Morning. And with some projects having 24 hour turn arounds from time to time it makes a bit of a difference.

We actually do already have "Date and Time" as a type of field you can create, so you could add a Delivery By field and put in a specific date and time. Bryan was originally asking about a way to store a floating datetime (every Saturday at 8pm).

I was more referring to task start/end times. We're actually already using Milestone tasks as meeting appointments. But We haven't determined how to go sub-day on task start/end times. Hour accurate task times would answer most of our scheduling needs without ical/google calendar interfaces..

HOWEVER- this does not allow this to be on a calendar. If I se a text field, it is accessable by no other items.
So My Sunday 8PM calendar will be empty

I schedule 52 evenets- one a week.
For entities to show up in Calendar View, there has to be a date field on the entity that the Calendar can use to place the entity on a day. If there are no date fields, then there's no way for Shotgun to know what date the entity should be listed in. As previously mentioned, we have ideas on improvements to make to our calendaring support. We're not going to try and recreate Meeting Maker or Outlook, but we plan to make the Calendar mode more useful in the future.
