Edl's Cut's and Cut Items

So I need to start storing our Edl's in Shotgun.  Once upon a time in a version of Shtogun long ago we had Cut's and Cut Items.  It appears as though both have dissapeared somewhat.  I'd like to create a Cut for each EDL we receive and link it to cut items, with each cut item representing a shot version.  Think Playlist for Versions.  Anyhow, can't seem to find the Cut entity in the site preferences.  I realize I have the luxury of creating my own custom entity, but the nice detail about Cut and Cut Item entity is the many to many realtion ship.  Any idea where Cut's went and how to get them back?

We removed Cut and CutItem a while back because very few people were using them and the time had come to re-think how they were built to track cut information. The main issue was that people were expecting to access the Version information on the CutItem when actually CutItem was a separate entity. A design requirement in order to better handle some shortcomings of Shotgun at the time.

As Shotgun has evolved, the functionality needed to track this information is now readily available in the standard way Shotgun links entities, the advent of being able to create multi-entity fields, and the ability to create fields on the many-to-many connections between two entities . So we recommend you use the Cut entity to track your Cuts (usually linked to one or more Sequences or Scenes), then link your Versions to the Cut. You can then store Cut Order and any other Cut-specific information on the CutVersionConnection entity.

The main downside to this approach as of v1.12 is that you won't be able to link the same Version to the Cut multiple times. We're aware of this but aren't quite sure how pressing a feature it is for people, so if this is something you're jones for, let us know!

If you don't see the Cut entity available in your site preferences, please contact us at support@shotgunsoftware.com and we'll enable them for you. We'll be keeping an eye on how this approach works in general for people so feel free to share your thoughts.

We added Cuts back in v2.0. They're much simpler now in that there's no more need for "Cut Items". Simply create a new Cut, link the Versions to your Cut, then you can track Cut-specific information on the CutVersionConnection. By default the Cut-specific fields include Cut In, Cut Out, Cut Duration, Cut Order, and Cut Comments.

We think this will be a good solution and are anxious to hear feedback!
