Older message settings

Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way to change the settings on how far back the "older messages" archiving goes on a note? Currently all but the last 2 messages get archived in a note but I really need to see everything posted during the last week.

Every time I open a note I have to click the older messages and then scroll down to messages from this week. It's very time consuming when you have to repeat this action every time.     Hi Cindy,

    Are you referring to the collapsed replies in a Note? If so, we're rolling out a change to Notes tomorrow that will remove that behavior so you'll now see all replies on your Notes unfolded by default. Here's a quick preview of what's coming.

    Hi Ben,

    I saw that change come through. You said by default all messages will be unfolded. Is there a way I can go back to folding them or be able to adjust the date range for folding these messages?

    Hi Cindy,

    There isn't a way to fold them back, but I talked to Brandon and I know about the slowness you're experiencing. It appears to be a bug with Chrome (Firefox works much better). Not a lot of our clients have long Note threads, so we were surprised (and impressed!) so see how long some of your notes can get. Is the issue mainly about speed? If so, we're working on the fix...if it's more, please let me know.

    Hi Ben,

    Oh, bummer. We really liked that feature especially since many of our threads do go way back! We try to keep conversations about one subject all in the same thread so information is easy to find. Early on we found this to be a much better way of keeping track of the evolution on an asset or shot for a particular task. Having everyone creating new notes every time causes a lot of confusion and makes for a tracking nightmare when we're backtracking on conversations. If there is anyway to bring that feature back but just modify it so that you can choose to use it or not would be awesome! 

    I am using Chrome, as are most people on our show but will switch to Firefox when it gets too unbearable until there is a fix. Thanks and hope you can revive the folding of notes as an option! Something like a check box to turn on archiving would be great.

    Hi Cindy,

    I have some updates for you. We'll be releasing a fix tomorrow that addresses the slow scrolling on long notes in Chrome. So you can let your team know that Chrome will perform well tomorrow (apologies we didn't catch this!).

    As for bringing back collapsed threads, we don't have plans to do this at the moment. It's fairly rare for us to see long note threads. In fact, lots of people were getting confused by the collapsing feature because they didn't expect their replies to collapse, so some artists were missing previous replies not knowing they were hidden in the collapsed section. But we'll be on the look out for trends and will definitely bring it back if we hear more requests for it.

    As for the debate about many notes vs many replies on one note, we have been noticing more and more people creating multiple notes ever since releasing the "activity stream" feature in 5.0, which lets you see all Notes on any given Shot, Asset, etc. It might make sense for someone on our team to work with your team to evaluate how you're using notes and learn why creating multiple notes is confusing.
