Time Logs for Management and Tutorials

Hello!

We are currently hoping to implement shotgun's time logs into our pipeline, but have found that right out of the box, it would not cover all the activity we would like to track.

For example, when our artists learn new skills or undergo training, both with a specific projects in mind and with general studio development in mind, there is no entity to attach that task to that would make sense. It's the same with production coordination, management, or client or internal reviews or meetings.

Is anyone else needing to track this data? How have you approached this in shotgun? I would love to hear how others have dealt with this type of data!

Thanks!

Julia

    Hi Julia,

Thanks for writing in, good question! We've seen some of our clients handle this by creating Tasks linked to the Project which are then used for generic project-wide activities like meetings, dailies, training, etc. These Tasks aren't assigned to anyone specifically, but users can right-click on them to quickly create a time log against the Task, attributing time spent to something like training or a meeting. A production will make a page or widget somewhere easily accessible with these Tasks clearly displayed so they're easy to find and log time against.

Let me know if that makes sense or I can provide any further details.

    Hi Brandon,

Interesting. It makes sense, maybe we could add a new custom entity called "admin" for this stuff to live, that would be attached to each project created from here on out.

    Seems like it could work!

    Thanks!

    Julia
