Job: R&D Hardware Developer

Reports To: Head of R&D

Double Negative’s R&D department develop ground-breaking hardware & software to ensure that the studio remains at the cutting-edge of global VFX production. 

Position Summary:
The Hardware Engineer is responsible for developing, deploying and maintaining the on-set tools used by production. 

Needs to Do:
Oversee the hardware development of tools used on-set.
Clearly communicate progress, concerns and priorities to senior management.
Liaise with on-set supervisors to understand current and upcoming production challenges.
Communicate the hardware strategy to management and staff.
Work collaboratively across departments to prioritise tasks.
Develop usable tools that are fit for purpose and integrate into DNeg’s Pipeline.
Investigate appropriate solutions and techniques to address challenges. 

Needs to Know:
Degree in STEM subject or equivalent.
Proven experience developing hardware.
Solid understanding of electronics, computer graphics and mathematics.
Good programming knowledge.
Solid knowledge and experience of designing bespoke engineering solutions and relevant processes.
Understanding of relevant third-party technologies to enable rapid design and development of required engineering solutions.
Familiarity with technology used on-set. 

Needs to Be:
Knowledgeable and interested in emerging industry technologies.
Smart, driven and adaptable.
Logical and practical in approach to solving complex problems.
Able to future-plan beyond the scope of the current development task.
Team oriented and organised.
A strong communicator – both verbal and written.
Able to articulate complex technical information to non-technical people.
