is it possible to run hiero player instead of rv?

When Shotgun sends a call to RV to play a locally based file on our network - can I change that so it triggers Hiero Player instead? 

I am in the media tab and have thumbnails of lots of clips. If I right click i get the choice to play in RV. When that selection is made could that trigger Hiero Player instead?

    Hi James,

    I'll look into it. Right now there is nothing out of the box to make this easy to do - a nice feature request, though. We do have clients using other players and I'll try and find out what their solution is and update this post. It might take me a few days to get the info.

    Hi James,

    Another client was able to make it work with FrameCycler by changing up what the rvlink protocol handler calls. The hander was intercepted and called an rvlink.py script which was a Shotgun API script that gets the file paths from Shotgun and calls FrameCycler. Theoretically, the same could be done for Hiero Player. Protocol handlers will be different on each platform and can be a little tricky to deal with, but there is a lot of information about them readily available.
