Feature Request: Deadline & Shotgun Toolkit Integration

Hi All,

I understand that Thinkbox has developed it's own Integration using the Shotgun API and not the toolkit. With the continuing development of the Toolkit, it seems to be a major gap that the Toolkit inside apps does not communicate with Deadline's "Connect to Shotgun" as to what task or version is being worked on. This still must be manually done which is counter to the automation that Toolkit is meant to resolve.

Is there any intention in the near future to make a more integrated solution with Toolkit and Deadline? Should we be expecting this from Shotgun or from Deadline? Is there communication between Thinkbox and Shotgun as to developing this integration further?

    Hey Anthony, I just had a meeting with Chris Bond yesterday and we're on an active thread with the Deadline team about what comes next.  You are right that this is a gap here and it's on our list, though we're not sure who will do the work.  My guess it it'll be both of us.  Stay tuned on this thread... we'll update you when we have news (or ideas that we'd like some input on).

    Any timelines on this? We are trying to weigh whether it is reasonable for us to invest time and resources in developing a custom solution or to wait for an official and supported release.

    Hi Anthony.

    I'm back from vacation now and just had a great chat with the Thinkbox folks yesterday.  We definitely want to improve Toolkit's relationship with render farms in general, and Deadline integration seems like the best way to do that given how many of our clients use it (definitely the most according to our forums and anecdotally through conversations).  I'm going to work on trying to firm up some plans for potential integration and will hopefully have it ready to discuss at Siggraph (realistically the work wouldn't start until post-Siggraph anyway).

    Will you be at Siggraph?  If so, it'd be great to meet up and chat about this!  Otherwise, I'll of course post it here in the forums.
