Linux audio mp2 mp3 ac3 aac and RV! Help please!

Hi everybody! 

I'm using Ubuntu 11.4. I'm having trouble with audio codec for some kind of files.

Here you can see the errors I'm getting. 

WARNING: quicktime codecs: Could not find audio Decoder for fourcc

WARNING: quicktime codecs: Could not find audio Decoder for fourcc .mp2

WARNING: quicktime codecs: Could not find audio Decoder for fourcc .mp3

WARNING: quicktime codecs: Could not find audio Decoder for fourcc ac-3

I don't have trouble with any other video player applications in my system like mplayer. Do I have to install the codec for RV separately? 

I'm getting kind of fustrated with this cause the 3d package in our studio only seems to export mp2, mp3, ac3, aac.

Any help will be appreciated!

    Hi Christian,

    Sorry RV is not working for you.  You can run "rv -formats" for a listing of all the video and audio formats RV supports.  For audio in a quicktime container, RV supports these codecs:

          ima4 (ima4)
          rawaudio (Raw 8 bit audio)
          twos (Twos)
          ulaw (Ulaw)
          sowt (Sowt)
          alaw (Alaw)
          in24 (24 bit PCM)
          in32 (32 bit PCM)
          fl32 (32 bit float)
          fl64 (64 bit float)
          lpcm (Linear PCM (QT 7))
          vorbis (Ogg Vorbis (qt4l compatible))
          vorbis_qt (Ogg Vorbis (qtcomponents compatible))

    For audio provided as a separate file, you can use these formats:

          format "aiff" - Apple AIFF audio file (AudioRead, AudioWrite)
          format "aif" - Apple AIFF audio file (AudioRead, AudioWrite)
          format "aifc" - Apple AIFC compressed audio file (AudioRead, AudioWrite)
          format "wav" - Microsoft WAVE audio file (AudioRead, AudioWrite)
          format "snd" - NeXT audio file (AudioRead, AudioWrite)
          format "au" - SUN Micosystems audio file (AudioRead, AudioWrite)

    Please note that unlike free players such as mplayer, we can't distribute decoders for patent- and license-encumbered codecs like AAC without paying a licensing fee that we'd have to pass on to our customers.

    Which "3d package" is it that's creating the quicktime ?

    I understand the licensing issue now.

    I'm using Blender.I could try PCM audio since Blender handles this codec. I will try and let you know!

    Hi guys!  having the same problem but what's strange is that our files play fine (in RV) on linux but not OSX.  We're doing mp4's and our editing app is locking that format to AAC audio only.

     

    we can probably script splitting the audio out and converting it, then remerging or possibly wrapping it in mov container - but I was just wondering if we have any options of pointing RV to a codec somehow?  or if there's any other way to use a 3rd party codec where RV will recognize it.

    I would love for this to be something we could specify from command line so we don't have to change our workflow just to get OSX compatibility, which is something only a couple of us here really need. (99% linux)

    Hi J,

    On Mac OS 32-bit RV/RVIO should be able to play AAC without any issue and you can recompile the 64-bit ffmpeg libquciktime plugin for 64-bit RV/RVIO if you are willing to take the legal responsibility for enabling access to the patent encumbered codec. If you are interested please let us know.
