dual projector system config

Hello,

we are currently testing RV as our player for a dual projector setup for stereoscopic content.

We have tearing problems and I wanted to know if anyone is using RV already for that purpose and whether tearing is problem too?

Our Specs for the workstation are

dual xeon 5130 2,00 ghz

16 gb ram

quadro 3800 (maybe a new 4000 would solve the problem ?)

win 7 prof.

We are unsing Nvidia Clone mode and Vertical Sync is forced on.

all the best

try turning off RV's vsync in the preferences and make sure your graphics card vzync is enabled. This helped me last time I saw this.

I gave it a try, unfortunately no success.

hm strange is that with RV 3.8.7 I could at least scrub without tearing. No with the 10.2 beta I am getting tearing while scrubbing...

Could you provide me the system specs, you are using at Ohu fx ? (I wish I could be in windy Wellington not in Hamburg :-) )

The tearing is with Nvidias Vsync on at a fixed position in the top third of the screen...

Then a new question is anyone using Fusion I/O Cards to feed RV content ?

    Or SSD raids?

Cheers and thanks for the hint Frank.

    Hi Johannes,

Sorry about the tearing.  It's unfortunately somewhat of a black art.  We made changes in 3.10 that we thought would improve it across the board, and did so in all our test cases, but of course there are a lot of possible setups out there, and in particular we don't have a dual projector setup to test, so it may certainly have gotten worse in some cases.

For the record, I have no tearing in all my tests now with 3.10 vsync pref on and GL vsync setting off.

Also we do most of our testing on linux, so it's quite possible it works better there than on windows.

    We'll just keep testing.

On the SSD question, yes, we were acually demoing 2K full-app (2048x15566) 24fps streaming playback from a single FusionIO ioXtreme care in our booth at Siggraph (and the fusionIO guys were also handing out brocures.  That was on WinXP Pro, by the way.

    Hi Johannes,

we don't have many specs yet as I'm in the middle of laying the ground work to have a set up at all :-D.

My experience is from working at other facilities with RV and I do have to say that tearing always seemed the biggest problem. Though every time it happened out support guys got it under control eventually.

    Hey alan

well thats good new with the Fusion IO !  I ll give it a try with your settings (although I think I went through all possible cases....)

regarding the tearing. I must say that it is a quite hard test scene I am using but framecycler somehow manages to deal with it...

but I think we can deal with the amount of tearing we are having at the moment.

We will try out the new quadro 4000 and an old quadro 3450 but I have not had chance to do that yet.

    All the best Johannes

    Hey

I had the chance to try the Quadro 3450 and RV did not work with the Quadbuffer there,

    The 4000 should arrive soon.
