RV won't stick as the default player for file types

On certain machines running Windows 10, RV cannot be set as the default for a file type. If you set a file to open in RV by right clicking, it will open the file once, but not set RV as the default player. It also won't work to set it through the control panel. When you go to choose an app to assign to a specific file type it'll immediately switch it to windows media player.

    Hi Irene,

Do you know what update version of Windows 10 the affected machines have?  From some searching, I'm seeing some indication that default file types might be affected by the v1809 update.

Additionally only a portion of machines might be affected because it looks like Microsoft has stopped that update.

We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809)* for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating.

Can you validate what version of Windows and Updates you have on the affected machine and see if that theory aligns?

    Hello future folks,

This message is to confirm that we have reproduced the issue and can't associate file types post v1809 update on Windows 10. In fact, it looks like it's actually v1803 that started becoming problematic. We're in the process of fixing this issue but currently don't have an ETA for a fix.

    Thank you!
